和文原稿のpre-edit事例

ラットを用いた小核試験の最高投与量である500mg/kgと臨床1日最大投与量である4000mg（1000mgを1日4回）とのCmax及びAUCに関する比較を表2.6.6.9-1 に示す．

上記の和文をMTに英訳させます。

A comparison of Cmax and AUC between the maximum dose of 500 mg/kg and the maximum clinical daily dose of 4000 mg (1000 mg four times daily) in the micronucleus study in rats is shown in Table 2.6.6.9-1.

英文だけを見ると、よくわからなーい。

上記の和文を丁寧に書くと、

「ラットを用いた小核試験の最高投与量である500mg/kgを投与したときのCmax及びAUCを臨床1日最大投与量である4000mg（1000mgを1日4回）を投与したときのCmax及びAUCを比較し、その結果を表2.6.6.9-1 に示す．」

となります。

冗長すぎるので、すっきりさせます。

「ラット小核試験の最高投与量である500mg/kg投与時のCmax及びAUCを臨床1日最大投与量である4000mg（1000mgを1日4回）投与時の値と比較し、その結果を表2.6.6.9-1 に示す．」

もっとすっきりさせます。

「ラット小核試験の最高投与量である500mg/kg投与時のCmax及びAUCを、表2.6.6.9-1 に示すように、臨床1日最大投与量である4000mg（1000mgを1日4回）投与時の値と比較した．」

上記のpre-edit後和文をMTに再度英訳させます。

The Cmax and AUC at the maximum dose of 500 mg/kg in the rat micronucleus study were compared with those at the maximum clinical daily dose of 4000 mg (1000 mg four times daily), as shown in Table 2.6.6.9-1.

post-editで仕上げようなんて、MTの長所をまったく理解していない。

特にメディカル英訳の場合、MTの出力をpost-editするのは医学翻訳初心者の下訳を和文原稿と照合しながら修正するのと同じだ。

何度も言うけど、pre-editするからMTが活きるんだ。
